On the sidelines of EGYPES – Egypt Energy Show, EMGF Secretary General Osama Mobarez held a series of strategic meetings, reinforcing regional collaboration, advancing sustainable energy initiatives, and strengthening global partnerships.
SG Mobarez was honored to meet with H.E. George Papanastasiou, Cyprus Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry, to congratulate him on a significant milestone in regional energy cooperation—marked by the signing of key agreements between Egypt and Cyprus during the event. This pivotal step enhances energy security and integration in the East Mediterranean, further strengthening cross-border collaboration. SG Mobarez also expressed gratitude for Minister Papanastasiou’s steadfast support of EMGF activities and his participation in the inauguration of EmpowerMed Women Energy, EMGF’s latest initiative to advance inclusivity and leadership opportunities for women in the energy sector.
Discussions with Minister Papanastasiou also underscored the importance of continued collaboration among East Med countries to unlock the region’s full energy potential. The Minister shared valuable insights on the way forward for regional energy cooperation and reaffirmed the mutual commitment to driving progress within EMGF.
SG Mobarez also had the pleasure of meeting Andrea Stegher, Vice President of the International Gas Union (IGU), and Eng. Cav. Khaled Abubakr, upcoming IGU Vice President. Their discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between EMGF and IGU, with specific steps agreed upon to enhance partnership efforts in 2025. The shared commitment to advancing the industry through stronger cooperation will drive greater integration and sustainability in the energy sector.
Additionally, SG Mobarez reconnected with longtime friend Jassim Isa AlShirawi, Secretary General of the International Energy Forum (IEF), for a productive discussion on enhancing collaboration between EMGF and IEF. This meeting marked their first since AlShirawi assumed his new role, offering an opportunity to align strategic priorities and explore tangible initiatives that will support the evolving energy landscape.
In another key meeting, SG Mobarez engaged with Karim El-Dessouky, Vice President & Regional Manager for Egypt & East Med at Bechtel and GIAC Vice Chairman. Their discussions focused on aligning the EMGF GIAC working plan, identifying strategic priorities, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to drive impactful initiatives. They also explored opportunities for accelerating project implementation, fostering innovation, and ensuring GIAC’s objectives remain aligned with the region’s energy developments.
These high-level engagements at EGYPES 2024 reaffirm EMGF’s commitment to fostering partnerships, driving innovation, and advancing regional energy cooperation to build a more integrated and sustainable energy future.
