At Egypes 2025 Strategic Conference, the session "Taking Harmful Emissions Out of Energy" brought together global industry leaders to explore the challenges and opportunities in reducing emissions while ensuring energy security.

Distinguished speakers, including Jassim Alshirawi (IEF), Lorenzo Simonelli (Baker Hughes), H.E. Eng. Jamal Al Loughani (OAPEC), Girish Saligram (Weatherford), H.E. Dr. Omar Farouq Ibrahim (APPO), Alessandro Puliti (Saipem), and H.E. Osama Mobarez (EMGF), engaged in insightful discussions on investment strategies, cost management, and emerging technologies for emissions reduction. Key topics covered included hydrogen, electrification, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), direct air capture, non-emergency flaring reduction, and energy efficiency improvements.

Moderated by John Defterios (NYU Abu Dhabi), the session underscored the urgent need for large-scale deployment of innovative solutions to align with the global net-zero agenda and drive long-term sustainability in the energy sector.

During the discussion, EMGF Secretary General Osama Mobarez emphasized the critical need for collaboration among all stakeholders—including governments, the private sector, regulators, international organizations, and technology providers—to accelerate the advancement of emissions removal technologies. He highlighted EMGF’s unique convening power in bringing these stakeholders together, fostering meaningful dialogue, ensuring alignment, and facilitating partnerships that support governments in achieving their emissions reduction goals.
