EMGF-IGU insightful session in Cairo

Today the EMGF co-organized with International Gas Union an insightful panel discussion at the IGU 2024 Council Workshop. The session, titled “Gas Dynamics in the Evolving Energy Transition Landscape” and took place in Cairo.

The panel explored and dissect the multifaceted role of natural gas in the global energy transition, with a specific emphasis on decarbonization goals and the strategic implications of East Med Gas developments.

It was an honor to feature H.E. Minister Karim Badawi, as one of our distinguished speakers, along with our esteemed panelists: HE. Osama Mobarez- EMGF Secretary General, H.E. Nikolaos Papageorgiou- Greek Ambassador to Egypt and Eng. Karim El-Dessouky, Vice President & Regional Manager for Egypt & East Med at Bechtel Corporation (also EMGF GIAC Vice Chairman).

During the panel, H.E. Eng. Karim Badawi emphasized the importance of natural gas as a transitional fuel in Egypt's energy strategy, highlighting ongoing projects aimed at enhancing energy security and sustainability. HE. Osama Mobarez spoke about the EMGF’s initiatives to foster regional collaboration and innovation in the gas sector, while H.E. Nikolaos Papageorgiou shared insights on Greece's role in promoting energy diversity in the Eastern Mediterranean. Karim El-Dessouky discussed the critical investments needed in infrastructure to support this transition, stressing the importance of public-private partnerships.
