Today, the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF), in partnership with the Organisation Méditerranéenne de l'Energie et du Climate (OMEC) and the UFM Gas Platform, hosted a technical day in Paris centered on "Maritime Decarbonization Scenarios in the Mediterranean." This event convened key technical stakeholders to discuss effective strategies that address the specific challenges and opportunities within our maritime sector.
In his opening remarks, SG Mobarez emphasized that while the Mediterranean has historically been the cradle of civilization, it now faces critical environmental challenges. The region is a climate change hotspot, with temperatures 1.5 °C above 19th-century levels and projected CO2 emissions expected to increase by 45%.
"By promoting collaboration among governments, industry, academia, and environmental organizations, we can tackle these shared challenges and safeguard our valuable ecosystems. This is the goal of the event and the mission of the EMGF." Said SG Mobarez.
The event witnessed extensive engagement of many dedicated stakeholders, all committed to exploring strategies for a more sustainable future in the maritime sector, which aligns perfectly with the EMGF's objective of fostering a collective commitment to making a positive impact.
