Today, the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) convened its 26th Executive Board Meeting, chaired by Mr. Aristotelis Aivaliotis- Secretary General for Energy & Mineral Resources – Ministry for Environment and Energy - Greece and EMGF Secretary General Osama Mobarez.
The meeting was hosted virtually, and began with opening remarks from Mr. Aivaliotis- EMGF EB Chairman, highlighting the forum's commitment to fostering regional cooperation and advancing sustainable energy practices. Following this, EMGF Secretary General Osama Mobarez provided insights into key achievements and ongoing initiatives since the last board meeting.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to strategic presentations and updates. The forum received a comprehensive update on recent activities, setting the context for detailed discussions throughout the session. Notably, the board deliberated on the outcomes of the "Developing a Regional Gas Monetization Plan" study, presented by BCG, seeking endorsement to advance regional gas monetization strategies.
Further discussions centered on the "Carbon Intensity Certification Mechanism" study, presented by S&P Global, aimed at establishing a certification framework to monitor and reduce carbon intensity across Member Countries. EMGF also outlined its preparations for participation in COP 29, emphasizing its role in global climate action and regional contributions.
The board engaged in a thorough review of EMGF's long-term strategy, aligning its goals with evolving regional dynamics and sustainability targets. Financial aspects were also addressed, with a detailed review of EMGF's 2024 budget performance and the proposal for the 2025 budget, ensuring adequate resources for ongoing and future initiatives.
With planning for the next executive board meeting and finalizing resolutions the agenda was concluded, highlighting actionable outcomes and setting the stage for implementation.
