EMGF SecGen participates in the 14th IEA-IEF-OPEC Symposium on Energy Outlooks

Today EMGF SG Osama Mobarez participated in the 14th IEA-IEF-OPEC Symposium on Energy Outlooks, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, under the theme of Energy Security, Technology and Sustainability —Scenarios and Markets.

SG Mobarez delivered his keynote remarks during the opening session, which witnessed the participation of HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, Minister of Energy, Saudi Arabia, Joe McMonigle- IEF - International Energy Forum Secretary General, Haitham Al Ghais- OPEC Secretary General, Keisuk Sadamori- International Energy Agency (IEA) Director, Energy Markets & Security Division, and Gauri Singh, Deputy-Director General- IRENA

“We need to work hand in hand to support the hashtag#diversification of energy, but in a manner that is more responsible and setting the hashtag#lowcarbon and low-cost supplies of energy, taking into consideration the hashtag#climatechallenge as a priority, as well as energy security” said SG Mobarez

During the event, market outlooks were presented and compared by the IEA, IEF and OPEC, which provided an opportunity to exchange points of view on their determinants, how they relate to other outlooks, and help deliver energy security, market stability, and sustainable development.

The symposium also explored the trade-offs between affordability, sustainability, and economic growth and how these are impacted by the current crisis. Experts discussed how governments and industry are expected to re-evaluate policy and investment decisions to keep net-zero climate and sustainable development goals within reach. Participants were invited to discuss if it is possible to reduce costs of transition to protect consumers and broaden prospects for economic growth.
